Collection: Industrial Silo Valves

KMH Spares supplies industrial silo valves for discharge and flow control across Ireland and the UK. As an official MIX srl agent, we provide genuine butterfly, slide gate and pinch valves in manual, pneumatic and motorised drives, backed by technical support to help you specify the correct valve for your material, size and application.

The right valve keeps material discharging reliably and seals when it needs to. The wrong one wears out early, leaks or holds up production. Choosing by material and duty is what gives you long service life, so the overview below routes you to the valve type that fits.

Our silo valve range
▸ Butterfly valves the compact, cost-effective workhorse for standard discharge and throttling on cement, aggregate and powders
▸ Slide gate valves robust full-bore shut off for heavy, coarse or abrasive materials where a butterfly valve would wear too quickly
▸ Pinch valves a flexible sleeve pinched shut, ideal for abrasive and granular materials with a simple replaceable wear part
▸ Actuators and drives manual levers and handwheels, pneumatic actuators and electric drives to suit how often and how remotely each valve operates

How to choose a silo valve

Valve choice comes down to the material first, then the drive. Getting both right gives reliable discharge and long service life.

Material

Fine cement and powders suit a butterfly valve, often rubber-lined for a tighter seal. Heavy, coarse or abrasive materials favour the full-bore shut off of a slide gate valve, or a pinch valve where the material should only contact a replaceable sleeve.

Drive and operation

Manual levers and handwheels suit valves operated occasionally or where no air or power is available. Pneumatic actuators give fast, repeatable, remote operation for frequent cycling in a batching sequence. Electric drives suit powered control where compressed air is not available.

Size and connection

The valve aperture must match your silo cone outlet or pipe diameter and the flow you need. For a direct replacement, match the existing drive configuration (for example square or splined shaft) so the actuator or lever fits.

Environment and hygiene

Dusty or hazardous areas may need specific actuator ratings such as ATEX. Food and sensitive powders need food-grade construction with compliant materials and hygienic seals.

Silo Valves FAQs

What types of valve are used on a silo?

The most common are butterfly valves for standard discharge and throttling, slide gate valves for heavy or abrasive materials, and pinch valves for abrasive or granular products. Pressure relief valves are a separate safety component covered under our monitoring and safety range.

Should I choose a manual or pneumatic valve?

Manual valves are simpler and more economical, suiting infrequent operation or sites without a compressed air supply. Pneumatic valves give fast, remote, automated operation for large silos and processes where the valve cycles frequently. Silo size, distance to the control point and operating frequency all feed into the decision.

Butterfly valve or slide gate valve?

A butterfly valve is compact and cost-effective for standard duties on finer materials. A slide gate valve gives a more robust, full-bore shut off for heavy, coarse or abrasive materials, at the cost of a larger, heavier valve. Many plants use both, matched to the material at each point in the process.

Do you supply replacement actuators and drive parts?

Yes. We supply genuine manual, pneumatic and electric actuators and drive components to suit MIX srl and WAM valves. Match the existing drive configuration for a direct replacement, and tell us the valve model if you are unsure.

Can KMH Spares help me specify the right valve?

Yes. As an official MIX srl agent, we supply genuine valves across Ireland and the UK and can confirm the correct type, size, drive and materials for your silo, with technical support and reliable lead times.
